strangersound ‘zine is an eclectic potpourri of various things and stuff. A variety of offshoots and variations have existed over the years…I just drive them until the wheels fall off and then I move on to the next thing. A pioneer from the old wild west world wide web days, before the machines took over. 😉
Mission: Music and culture with an educational and historical focus. Learning is best when you’re enjoying it, eg: having fun. Think of it as pop-ed style, most things are just a primer meant to get you interested. Then you can do the real education yourself. When the world’s information is at your fingertips, you’d be stupid to be ignorant.
We don’t adhere to any scene dictates, trends, genre limitations, social periods, or any other socially imposed binding mechanisms and shallow classifications. Lots of vintage, I like vintage. Not because of the sake of being vintage, but because I like things that are timelessly cool. More better.
The specialty is music, but this is the web, so there’s lot’s to learn. This site is for educational purposes. No agenda other than researching and curating quality content with style. I like to write and share cool stuff…and post good jams. Mostly for the #jams. I’m just a frustrated DJ trying to share good music and all this other crap is just filler. Nobody pays any attention to the jams, so I gotta give them something to look at. But I do love magazines and the web gives me the ability to run one, so…
The editor has his equivalent doctorate in music and is a deft DJ with excellent taste. Genres are useful, but I don’t want to get bogged down in one. The goal is good music. It’s a simple system with one rule, no need for trendy scene mentality or some fashionable uniform and conformist hair style. We’re not trying to bend genders over here, we’re trying to jam. Hippies and punks…same assholes in a different uniform. 🙂
All images and content are sourced and credited, as much as possible. Strangersound appreciates content originating from sources other than your own work that is properly attributed, playing attention to image usage rights, and general respect for IP rights. The web/net is a wide open place that encourages the flow of information, by it’s design, so it’s natural that any content uploaded to it will propagate. The only reason material is abused without respect to property rights is a general lack of respect and laziness. The pictorial articles, for example, take an hour or two to put together. Properly sourcing and crediting everything takes the most time. I can do the layout and editorial in no time. Properly sourcing and crediting everything is the most time consuming and tedious part of the process. Sorry to lecture, but you’re here to learn, right? 😉
